Community Art ProjectGrand Forks Housing Authority

Eighteen children have come together at the LaGrave Learning Center to paint “Turning Lemons into Lemonade,” a piece created to celebrate the positive changes that can come out of unfortunate situations with hard work and determination.  The piece was drawn out by Cristina Terry, the Learning Center Coordinator at LaGrave, and Jinae Swenson, a local artist.  They then separated the canvas into sections, giving each child a chance to create their own piece of the larger picture.

This event was well attended by residents, Housing Authority staff, and community members.  We had a total of 63 individuals who joined to support and congratulate those who have made choices to turn lemons into lemonade.  We discussed success stories of previous TechForce participants and Neighborhood Networks Center users.  In addition we recognized the 20 children (all tenants of LaGrave Place) who helped paint the art piece.  Enjoyed by all!  The painting will be showcased in the LaGrave Learning Center.

Below you will find pictures of the art piece being made, the unveiling at the Link, and the final result!
