Reporting Changes

Families participating in any Housing Assistance Program must agree to complete an annual review of their income, assets, expenses and household composition and size. During the year, families must also agree to report certain changes. This is because a family’s share of the rent is based on the income, family size and composition.

Annual Reexamination: Every family must complete an annual reexamination once per year. The Grand Forks Housing Authority will notify each family when it is time to complete this reexamination of income, assets, expenses and household size and composition. All information provided by the family must be verified according to HUD regulations. The family must submit all required documents and information. The family must sign and submit all required forms. Failure to comply and complete the annual reexamination in a timely manner will result in the end of housing assistance payments.

Interim Reexamination Policy: The Grand Forks Housing Authority may perform an interim reexamination at any time that it is warranted by changes in household income, allowances and/or composition.

Housing Choice Voucher Program: Families receiving assistance through this program must report in writing and a reexamination must be performed when the family requests to add any person 18 years of age or older to the assisted household. This request must be received, and the approval must be granted in writing before the person moves into the unit; or a family with zero income reports the start of any income.

A family is not required to report other changes during the year, but may request an interim reexamination due to any changes that may have occurred since the last determination. If a family wants a reexamination to be performed, the family must submit a written request for a reexamination and report all changes in income, allowances or composition that have occurred since the last determination.

Assisted Properties: Families receiving housing assistance through the Section 8 Project-Based Program (assisted properties) must report when:
