Housing Choice Vouchers

Families using the Housing Choice Voucher Program have the freedom to choose their own apartment, move to another unit (in or beyond Grand Forks County), and have access to both the Family Self-Sufficiency Program, and the Housing Choice Voucher Home Ownership Program. Apartments are inspected according to HUD regulations to ensure a safe, decent, and affordable living environment for all families. Participants in the Housing Choice Voucher program must meet our eligibility requirements, including income limits and the regulations set by HUD and the GFHA. The Housing Authority is authorized to issue 1,265 vouchers per month, including 20 dedicated to the Family Unification Program and 25 dedicated to Veterans through the VASH program. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found online or at our office.

The Housing Choice Voucher Home Ownership Program (HCVHO) is available to participants of the Housing Choice Voucher Program. If a family has been utilizing a voucher for at least one year, is in good standing with the Housing Authority, and is a first time homebuyer they are eligible to convert their rental assistance payment into a monthly mortgage payment. The program provides counseling, workshops, and pre-purchase preparation on top of offering the ability to build equity in your home rather than continuing to paying rent to a landlord.

For further eligibility information, review the GFHA Application for Housing Assistance, found on our Resources page.
